It took Google 8 days to send traffic to my brand new site
by JPM on Oct.30, 2009, under Blogging, Traffic
In this post I asked how long it would take before Google would start to send traffic to my brand new site Techplay- experience.
Last night I received my first traffic from a Google search, 8 days after the first post was made. I suspect this would have been quicker if I had been able to put more content on line at a quicker rate.
At least this proves that the process works.

So what happens when the 2 come together on stage at the same time……the following video shows the singing “I know him so well” from the musical “Chess”.

Still no Google Traffic for TechPlay-Experience
by JPM on Oct.27, 2009, under Blogging, Traffic
In this post I asked how long it would take for Google to send traffic to my TechPlay Blog.
The blog was born on 21/10/09 and currently has 9 posts.
6 days later Google hasn’t sent a single visitor, but does this mean that anything is wrong – I’ve search Google for my blog’s domain and it is listed so I know that Google is crawling the blog, so why no visitors?
I suspect that the answer is content – when I launched Netbook-experience.com I had a library of posts that I could copy across quickly, more posts = more content = more Google traffic, but with Techplay-Experience I’m having to start from scratch. So it is going to take a while to build a good solid selection of content for Google to see.
How to make money from Videos with Voxant NewsRoom
by JPM on Oct.24, 2009, under Blogging, Monetization, Money Making, Traffic
Videos can be a useful addition to a blog or website, they add interest for your audience and drive repeat visitors to your site, videos can be a very useful form of sticky content.
There is also a way to make money from videos using Voxant Newsroom who provide a wide selection of individual video articles and also Video feeds. The videos carry advertising and some of the revenue generated gets passed back to you.
For every 1000 views of a video you get $3.50.
There is also an option to auto play videos where the videos automatically start to play when your site loads, these carry a lower rate of pay pf $0.50 for every 1000 views, but if you have high traffic this may work form a good source of income.
The video belows shows how the video can be integrated into your posts.

How Long does it Take before Google will send you Traffic
by JPM on Oct.21, 2009, under Blogging, Netbook-Experience, Traffic
I’ve previously written about the difficulties I had in getting Google to send traffic to My Netbook-Experience site. I eventually made a break through and managed to get Google to send me traffic by following these instructions.
With this is mind I thought I would investigate how long it would take for Google to crawl through my blog and send me traffic if I follow these instructions right from day1.
I’ll give it a go and report back here how it goes.
TechPlay-Experience.com Launched
by JPM on Oct.21, 2009, under Blogging, Technology
I’ve found myself posting more and more technology and videogame news and articles on this blog, and as they are topics that really interest me I thought I would create a dedicated blog where I can write just about these subjects.
I’ve registered a Domain name: http://techplay-experience.com/ and created a blog there and my first task has been to install Google Analytics using the Google Integration Tool Kit.
A New Video of RUSE
by JPM on Oct.18, 2009, under Technology
I’ve been following the video game RUSE for a while, as it takes the concepts behind table top war gaming and integrates them into a computer and console video game.
There have been a number of videos released which show how the game play works in detail….and the game is looking superb.
This latest video shows how tactics play a big part of the game and how decoys can be used to gain the advantage of your enemy.
If you use Adsense you must have a privacy policy
by JPM on Oct.18, 2009, under Blogging, Monetization, Money Making
Many web sites and blogs use Google Adsense as a revenue stream to monetize their pages, but how many actually read the terms and conditions that you are required to accept when you sign upto Adsense?
One of the terms and conditions is that you need to publish a Privacy Policy on your site. If you haven’t done this before then you can view an Adsense compatible Privacy Policy Template by clicking here.
Make sure you follow those Adsense Terms and conditions or you might get a nasty suprise.
And ….. another paying survey from YouGov
by JPM on Oct.18, 2009, under Monetization, Money Making
YouGov is a well known and respected survey company who produce surveys for many large organisations, their findings often appear on news reports.
What’s more is that they pay you to take part in their surveys. Today I completed another YouGov on line survey and was rewarded with 50 points (50p), when you get to 5000 points then they send you a nice £50 cheque in the post.
I’m currently averaging over 1 survey a week from Yougov.
An update on how Adsense compares to Kontera for money making on blogs
by JPM on Oct.14, 2009, under Blogging, Monetization, Money Making
Its now been a month since my last update on how Kontera compares to Adsense so I thought I would see how the comparison is going but over a slightly longer Time Frame.
I’ve install both systems on a number of my sites and here’s the results between 2nd August and 13th October.
Adsense:
Total Page Impressions: 6953
Number of Clicks: 30
Earnings ($): 4.22
Average earning per click ($): 0.14
Average number of impressions per click: 231.77
Kontera:
Total Page Impressions: 6,014
Number of Clicks: 64
Earnings ($): 1.42
Average earning per click ($): 0.02
Average number of impressions per click: 93.97
In summary, my comparisons continue to show that Kontera gets significantly more clicks then Adsense but Adsense has significantly better rates of pay.

The trailer for RUSE is fantastic
by JPM on Oct.08, 2009, under Technology
In this post I mentioned how RUSE was going to use the new Microsoft Surface technology to put a modern slant on table top war gaming.
The Trailer for the game really shows this use of technology to full effect, showing how hand movements are used to facilitate battles, by virtually pushing your troops forward they charge into battle.
This game is a really good example of how touch screens can be used to their potential.

Which Days Bring More Traffic?
by JPM on Oct.05, 2009, under Blogging, Traffic
I thought it would be Interesting to see if any days generally bring more traffic then others. The general opinion around the Internet is that Weekends are generally bring less visitors then week days, so I thought I would see if the traffic to my Netbook Experience Blog reflected this or not.
So using Google analytics I pulled of a report showing how many visitors visited Netbook Experience each day during September.
I’ll repeat this expercise for a month to get a better picture overall but the results for September are shown below, and show that Fridays are on average the Quietest days for my site and Sundays are the businest days.
The average number of vistitors every day in September:
Fridays: 27.75 visitors on average
Thursdays: 30.75 visitors on average
Tuesdays: 33 visitors on average
Wednesdays: 33.4 visitors on average
Saturdays: 35.75 visitors on average
Mondays: 38 visitors on average
Sundays: 40.25 visitors on average
Avenue Q meets Wicked
by JPM on Oct.04, 2009, under Music
2 of the most popular musicals in the theatre in recent years are Wicked and Avenue Q.
Wicked is a thought provoking look at the events leading upto the Wizard of OZ, and follows the adventures of Elphaba, who will go on to become the Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda, who becomes the Good Witch of the North. Wicked has gone onto to break box office records around the world.
Avenue Q has been described as an adult Sesame Street, and when it closed on Broadway it became the one of the longest running shows of all time. The show features mainly commedy songs, and the show is aimed at adults, whith strong language and adults themes.
As of June 21, 2009, the production had grossed $117,009,852 and had returned profits of $23,500,000 to its investors.
So what happens when the 2 shows combine. In this clip Trekkie Monster as Elphaba and Kate Monster as Glinda sing one of Wicked’s show stopping songs “Popular.”
How Blog Carnivals improve traffic
by JPM on Oct.01, 2009, under Blogging, Traffic
It’s now been nearly a week since I hosted my first Blog Carnival so I thought I would investigate how much extra traffic taking part in blog carnivals brings to a site.
In total BlogCarnival.com has sent me 31 visitors since 18/09/09 which is when I started advertising my Carnival (13 days ago).
The highest daily numbers of visits was the day after the Carnival was published with 9 visits.
In addition I’ve submitted articles to a number of Carnivals and the domains of the hosts and the number of hits from those Domains are shown below:
- http://www.successpart2.com/ 0 hits
- http://blogging4good.blogspot.com/ 0 hits
- http://thatsblog.com 7 hits
So over all I’ve had 38 visitors from my Blog Carnival work, and as well as picking up a number of extra links hosting the carnival provides a regular source of content.
38 may not sound like a lot but I’ll keep working with Blog Carnivals to see how it goes, particularly with the Carnivals that send me traffic.
How to Watch ITV HD on a Sky HD box
by JPM on Oct.01, 2009, under Technology
It’s commonly believed that currently ITV HD is on available to FreeSat viewers, however since a recent update to the Sky HD EPG it’s possible to manually add the channel to Sky HD.
ITV HD currently broadcasts a lot of championship League Football in HD so for Football fans this is a good move
To add Sky HD go to the Add Channels menu and use the following settings:
11.427
H
2/3
27500
If you now go to the other channels Menu Channel 10510 is ITV HD.
