A free SatNav for the iPhone
by JPM on Aug.09, 2010, under Technology
The iPhone is an incredible piece of kit and with it’s built in GPS and mobile Data, it provides a fantastic platform for SatNav or route finding applications, however these applications tend to come at a high price.
However there is a free SatNav application available on the Apple App Store called Skibbler Lite.
Skibbler lite provides all the basic SatNav functionality that most users need, Navigation to address, linking to contact lists, POI’s etc. and all for free.
It does however require an active data connection so make sure that you don’t pick up any unexpected data costs.
If you don’t want to pay for a SatNav application then checkout Skobbler Lite, it might be just what you need.

What was One Thing I Learned Recently
by JPM on Aug.01, 2010, under Question of The Day
Happy Earth Day, Big Blue Marble!
God isn’t behind the great disasters like the floods in Pakistan.
He’s behind the brave people doing their best to help the situation.
He’s behind the incredible survival of people that are pulled from rubble weeks after major earthquakes.
He’s not behind the bad in people, he’s behind the one moment of compassion shown by bad people.
He’s not behind the greed in man, he’s behind the kindness and generosity that we are all capable of showing from time to time
The times that we feel he is missing the most are the times when God is present the most
The World Would Be a Better Place If…
by JPM on Jul.24, 2010, under Question of The Day
keep pushing the limits….
The world would be a better place if we could ski in the mountains in the morning and then drive down to the beach in the afternoon
That’s based on a line from the classic Fawlty Towers, but it makes the point well. Why not squeeze as much out of life as possible, choose your favourite things and do it.
After all you only get out of life what you put in.
Question of the day: Could you live without the internet for a month?
by JPM on Jul.20, 2010, under Question of The Day
The Internet has become such a big part of our life that actually we almost depend on it.
How many of us don’t: check our email, read the news, check Facebook or Tweet at least once a day?
Traditional forms of communication: Newspapers, TV, Radio & Telephones, are all on available online, and the Internet provides them, with in some cases, a more natural home for these services. No tree’s need to be chopped down to read the Times newspaper online & you can watch your favourite TV show on your PC at a time that best suites you.
Even day to day activities like shopping have become more popular online in recent times.
Could you live without the internet for a month? Yup
Perhaps the real question should be: Why would you want to?

The joys of True High Def Video Calling
by JPM on Jul.05, 2010, under Uncategorized
This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of faceVsion Technology USA. All opinions are 100% mine.
More and More people are using Internet Based Video conferencing tools, like Skype, to keep in touch with friends and family across the world.
Unfortunately in most cases the video quality on these calls isn’t brilliant. Low quality cameras or poor internet connections can lead to low frame rate videos or poor image quality. Even if you buy a camera described as HD (like the Microsoft Cinema or Logitech Pro 9000) , most people’s home broadband connections aren’t capable of delivering high frame HQ video, but there is an option, the FV touchcam N1
The faceVsion is the world’s first Skype certified webcam capable of delivering full screen 720p streaming video over the Internet, it achieves this by using High Quality H.264 encoding, which compress HD video to a size where it can be compressed down small enough to be delivered over a normal home broadband Internet connection.
The FV touchcam also features a 78 degree super wide angle lens with fast auto-focus, allowing several people to comfortably get into the same picture, allowing families to chat without having to move the camera between people or swapping seats. The Touchcam is also easy to install and connects through a USB 2.0 connection.
So if you want to see your family in crystal clear HD quality on skype then the FV ExpressCombo can be purchased through the faceVision on line store and other value added partners.

Cats are clever and cunning creatures, but every now and again they come up second best.
Check this Simon’s Cat Cartoon entitled Snow Business, where Simon’s Cat experiences Snow for the first time.
Snow takes some getting used to, so I’m sure the cat will get the upper hand next time.
You Don’t have the spend a fortune on the iPhone
by JPM on Jul.01, 2010, under Technology
There is definite move from fixed desktop computing to Mobile Computing.
Smartphones allow you to perform most daily computer tasks anywhere, and allow Bloggers or writers to be creative anywhere.
The iPhone range of phones are popular but often the price puts potential users off.
Three have just announced their prices for both the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3gs, and by opting to provide the device on 2 year contracts the initial pricing is cheaper. This will open the door to users original put off by the high outlay.
With 3′s iPhone pricing you can pick up a 3gs for no initial outlay, and an iPhone 4 for only £99 pound upfront on a £30 a month contract, or free on a £45 pound a month contract

The way people are watching TV is changing, people are moving away from watching TV programs at scheduled times of transmition to watching their favourite programs at a time which suits them. The method of content delivery is changing as well, with more viewers watching TV on their computers rather then on a TV, in fact never have viewers had as much flexibility or choice, they can choose when, where and how.
SeeSaw is a provider of top quality TV programs, who deliver both free and paid for content straight to your computer screen. They offer hundreds of hours of programing for free from top broadcasters like the BBC, Channel 4, Channel 5, as well as showing programs from independent studios and films. Google Traffic reduced
by JPM on Jun.17, 2010, under Blogging, Traffic
Somethings happened with Google, it’s almost stopped sending traffic to my Netbook-Experience.com blog.
The change happened on the 4th of June, where previously the majority of my traffic came from Google, suddenly Google started sending the site less then 10 hits a day.
Interesting referals from my old Blogspot netbook blog more then doubled, as if Google starting sending more traffic to that site, even though that site just has links through to the new Blog.
After a bit of research it looks if Google has altered it’s algorithms. Some Bloggers have gained and some have lost out. That’s the problem of having a monopoly I guess – when it comes to Web Traffic google are out by themselves. I’m just watching to see if Traffic picks up again.

AutoBlogs not a success
by JPM on Jun.09, 2010, under Blogging, Traffic
As discussed in these posts, I’ve been experimenting in using autoblogs, where blog content is generated by taking content from other sites.
I’ve decided to stop the experiment as to be honest non of the sites are doing particularly well. One site, Morning Digest, did initially show some promise ( 300 hits per day at peak) but google has now stopped sending it traffic.
I’m going to delete most of the sites now, although I’ll keep Morning Digest running as I find it useful as an information portal.
Content is king, and I’m convinced now that the only way to keep large amounts of traffic flowing to your site is to regularly create your own unique content.
Auto blogging update
by JPM on Jun.03, 2010, under Blogging, Traffic
In this post I described how I was performing an experiment to see how effective autoblogging can be.
Most of the blogs aren’t doing brilliantly, but one is doing better then I expected.
To date http://morning-digest.jpmblog.com/ has received 3000 visitors, which I find incredible.
Traffic is rising everyday so it will be interesting to see how high the daily traffic can arrive.
Dilberts lost weight but does he get a pat on the back?
by JPM on Jun.03, 2010, under General
We all enjoy Dilbert as his cartoons reflect real aspects of real life and the work place extremely well.
In these two cartoons, Dilbert is accused of stealing an office computer and then Dilbert tells Dogbert that he’s lost a little weight.
Can you guess what Dogberts response is?

Summary Of My Auto Blogging experiement so far
by JPM on May.27, 2010, under Blogging, Traffic
As mentioned in this post and this post, I’ve been investigating how to create auto blogs, where blog content is automatically created and posted without the need of human intervention.
I’ve been looking at 2 different methods of Auto Blogging to create a number of sites.
The following sites: Morning Digest, Gadget News, & Reality TV News are all created using the WP-o-Matic WordPress plug in, which takes RSS feeds and automatically turns them into Blog Posts.
The Following sites: ChinWag & Money Box have been created using the WP Article Fetch plug in, which pulls in articles from a centralised database by set topic and automatically publishes them on your Blog.
I’ve also created an Auto Blog based around an amazon store called TopBooks but I’ll come back to this site at a later date.
So hows it going?
So far I’ve been most impressed with the results from Morning Digest which between 9th and the 26th of May has received over a 1000 visits.
I’ve yet to be impressed by the WP Article Fetch created sites.
More to follow.
