by JPM on Dec.20, 2009, under General, Music
On Saturday 19/12/09, the Scunthorpe Corps Salvation Army band, braved the weather and played a selection of Christmas Carols to shoppers in Ashby High St.
The morning was a great success and the music was much appreciated, and several of the Carols were captured on video.
1) Who is He in yonder stall:
2) In the bleak mid-winter:
3) Past 3 O’clock:
4) Oh Happy Day:
5) Sweet Chiming Christmas Bells:
6) While Shepherds watched their flocks by night:

Derren Brown predicted the lottery results live on TV – both TV shows side by side.
by JPM on Sep.10, 2009, under General
On Wednesday night TV Illusionist Derren Brown performed an illusion where he appears to predict the Lottery results live on channel 4 as the numbers were drawn live on BBC 1.
This rather neat video shows both shows side by side as they happened – it really is a clever trick but how did he do it.

How important are Internal Links.
by JPM on Aug.27, 2009, under Blogging, General, Traffic
Whilst interrogating the Google webmaster tool kit to find out where my google traffic is, I made a couple of important discoveries:
1) you can find my pages by searching in google
2) You can only see the pages that are linked to directly from the front page.
I hadn’t appreciated that Google uses internal links when crawling through sites. To try and put this right I’ve written a post which links to every other post on the blog.
I’ll report here when I see if I get better results from Google.

Netbook Experience Update
by JPM on Aug.25, 2009, under Blogging, General, Netbook-Experience, Traffic
I thought I would give an update on how the site development is going for my new Netbook Experience site.
I’ve now copied across 21 Articles from my old blog to the new site, and I’m also pleased to have 21 (non spam) comments so far forming some good discussion.
In 21 days since the site went live I’ve had 457 hits from 298 visitors. I’m quite pleased with that for my first month, but as google is sending me no traffic where is this traffic coming from???
My top sources are:
My old blog sent me: 257 hits – Everytime I moved a post to the new blog I put a link on the old site.
The aspreoneuser.com forums have sent me 63 hits – I updated my forum signiture and posted on there.
Getsatisfaction.com has sent me 32 hits – one of the solutions I posted solved a common problem and a reader posted about my site on there.
So far so good.

A better way to Integrate Google into your Blog – makes AdSense more relevant.
by JPM on Aug.16, 2009, under Blogging, General, Monetization, Traffic
I had been trying a few different plugin’s to implement Google AdSense and Analytics, with varying success – especially with AdSense ad’s not being relevant to my Blog.
I’ve found a different plug in called Google Integration Toolkit, you can find it by searching the available plugins through the admin dashboard.
In one plugin you can set your Analytics Code, set your tracking code for the Google WebMasters toolkit and also insert a couple of settings to help your AdSense plugin.
Certainly since I made the change Adsense is definitely becoming more appropriate to my content.

A most pleasant afternoon at Normanby Hall Country Park
by JPM on Aug.05, 2009, under General
On Sunday 02/08/09 I had a very pleasant afternoon watching the Scunthorpe and Barton Corps of the Salvation Army put on an open Air concert.
The weather held out and although it was a little windy, it stayed warm and dry.
Normanby Hall Country Park is a nice place to visit near Scunthorpe and very suitable of picnics for the entire family.

Netbook-Experience.com is launched
by JPM on Aug.02, 2009, under Blogging, General, Netbook-Experience
Being keen to get started as quickly as possible I’ve purchased the Netbook-Experience.com Domain and I’ve put a few posts on there.
I’ve picked some of my most popular pages from my old blog to go online first, and I’ve picked a nice theme to go with it so I’m back online.
I’ve put 4 posts online so far:
- An introduction to the site.
- A description of how to install the BBC IPlayer.
- A description of how to install the ITV Player.
- A description of how to install Songbird.
netbook-experience.com is online now.
My next step is to work out how to track visitors to WordPress.

How to get web pages back that Google has deleted
by JPM on Aug.02, 2009, under General
As mention in this post Google recently without warning blocked my Blogger account and deleted my blogs.
I was gutted as I though I had lost all my work…but fortunately I have found a way to get a lot of my work back.
All my pages ran Google Analytics, so that I was able to to track traffic, and fortunately this has given me a way to access a copy of my blogs, thanks to Google Website Cache.
In Analytics it’s possible to view which pages have been viewed by visitors, including the full path of the web page. This path can be ‘googled’.
When google returns the search results it will give you a link to your page, which will just return the google deleted blog message, but also gives the opportunity to view the cached view, this displays a copy of the page which can then be saved to you computer.
I don’t know how long the cached version lasts for, but it may give you a window of opportunity to save some important work.

Welcome to JPMBlog.com and why I hate Google.
by JPM on Aug.02, 2009, under General

Google Blocked me
Welcome to JPMBlog dot com.
I’ve started this blog following a complete disaster, Google without warning (and, as far as I can tell, reason) have removed all my blogs and blocked all access to my blogger account. Thats 2 and 1/2 years lost. There is nothing there now but ” Blog has been removed” messages.
I have no idea why Google took this action, but it’s made me determined to make sure that in future all my blogs are on paid hosting.
This blog will be used to track my progress in recreating my Blog sites, and how I make the best of them.
