iPhone-Experience.com recieved 983 hits in first two days

As mentioned in this post my iPhone help site, iPhone-experience.com went live on the the 01/01/11, it’s purpose – to help iPhone users get the best out of their handsets by sharing hints and tips. Keen for the site to get off to a flying start I wanted to reach as many readers as possible.

I ‘m really keen that the site is genuinely helpful so I’m putting a lot of hard work into making sure that information on the site is of high quality and well written so that readers will want to come back. Maren Kate – a successful blogger herself, has often said that the most popular sites on the Web are those that make it  a better place.

The site went live with 5 articles live on the 01/01/11 so that there were a few articles to read and I’ve continued to add at least 1 article a day, and I chose to use Twitter to try and reach readers.

I sent a message to 2 famous technology journalists, the Gadget Show’s Poly and Kate Russell from BBC’s Click TV show, letting them know about the site and asked them to re-tweet my message to their followers, which they both did, which was very kind of them.

The results were very impressive, not only did they re-tweet my message but their followers started to re-tweet my message too.  The traffic to my site was incredible within 2 days the site had received almost 1000 hits, and as importantly I had picked up a number of new Twitter Followers, this gives me a platform to adertise new site updates. It’s still early days but I’ve very happy with the lauch of iPhone-Experience.com

The Peter Jones Collection Launches on Twitter – all in the aid of Charity

Following on from Theo Paphitis announcing  his new business Boux Avenue on Twitter,  his fellow Dragon Peter Jones has used the Social Network to launch his new Clothing Range – The Peter Jones Collection.

Since joining Dragons Den, Peter has become well known for his taste in clothes, particularly his colourful stripy socks, distinctive cuff links and ties. Peter Jones has always championed the fact that first impressions make a difference, and you only get one chance to make them. With this in mind, Peter has designed the range to emulate his style, give the wearer confidence and help present a good positive first impression.

To his great credit – Peter has used this interest in his dress sense to help those less fortunate, with all the profits from the Peter Jones collection going to charity.

Twitter is fast becoming recognised as a great marketing tool, and the fact that Britain’s top business men & women are using Twitter to launch product ranges shows how powerful the tool is when you have a significant number of followers…and a number of the most well know British Business moguls work hard to attract a constant increase in Twitter follows.

Twitter is an incredible way of easily reaching a lot of people, and best of all it’s free.

Lord Sugar & Piers Morgan’s Charity Twitter Bet

What you get out of Twitter very much depends on who you follow, if you follow Dull Time Lines that aren’t relevant to you or spam accounts then your Twitter Experience will be disappointing, but if you follow the right people then Twitter comes to life and it will bring you a great deal of entertainment.

Two of the celebrities in my timeline are the very successful business man and entrepreneur Lord Sugar and former Daily Mirror editor Piers Morgan who are currently involved in ongoing banter.

They have made a bet with each other where who ever has the least Twitter followers on Christmas day has to donate £5000 to the Great Ormond Street Charity. Lord Sugar joined Twitter first so has an advantage but Piers has joined CNN and is well known for his work on the ITV1 show Britain’s Got Talent and is gaining Followers everyday.

Ultimately it doesn’t matter who wins, both will end up with a lot of followers, and the true winner will the the fantastic Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity, but both men deserve a pat of the back for this innovative use of Social Media to raise money for and awareness of this worth while cause.

Not to mention the fantastic entertainment that their witty banter brings to your Twitter Time Line.

Don’t Forget to check out Tweeting Times

You can check out the latest version of the Tweeting Times by clicking here.

Mrs Stephen Fry – The True Star of Twitter in the Fry household

When most people think of celebrity users of Twitter,  a lot of people will automatically think of Stephen Fry, he’s long championed the social network in the media and with nearly 2 million followers his Tweets have a greater  audience than some TV channels. Whether it’s finding questions for his live tours or giving updates on his latest filming projects Stephen has shown the potential of Twitter and provides one of the most entertaining celebrity time lines for his army of followers.

However, behind every good man there’s a good woman, and Twitter has provided the perfect medium for Edna, Stephen’s downtrodden wife & mother of his five, six or possibly seven kids to tell her story to the world.

The genuineness of  Edna’s Twitter time line aside, it’s a joy to read, relevant, exceptionally clever & witty. Everyday it provides genuine laugh out loud moments, frequently at the expense of her social media husband as she paints a detailed picture of her mundane world.

As more and more people find Edna’s Tweets the number of her  followers steadily increases, she currently has over 77,000 followers  and this has given her a genuine platform to launch her own book entitled Mrs. Fry’s Diary which is available now and is receiving many very positive reviews.

For entertainment value Edna’s time line is often a better read than Stephen’s, although Stephen’s Tweets give a genuine and amusing insight in celebrity life, Edna is fast becoming a celebrity in her own right.

Twitter is what you make of it, it can be dull as dishwater if you don’t pick who to follow carefully but if you follow interesting time lines then Twitter becomes something magical, and Edna certainly makes Twitter a better place.

The Power of Twitter – The Theo Paphitis Effect

Yesterday I wrote this article on how Theo Paphitis used Twitter to promote his new business Boux Avenue. Theo was good enough to re-tweet the link to his followers and the effect was incredible. Within 5 mins the traffic to my blog had spiked to such an extent that my blog was using more then 10% of the CPU power of the server farm and my account was temporarily suspended. Using Google Analytics it’s possible to see this effect visualised.

The graph below shows the sudden spike in Traffic after Theo’s re-tweet and then the much slower decline during the day after.

What this shows is the power of Twitter, people that have a large number of dedicated followers can really create traffic towards their own sites or the sites that interest them, for example this could really help support businesses generate leads or generate interest in charities.

I’m sure that this will only work if your followers respect your tweets, and pay attention to your entries. So keep your Tweets interesting and informative, and you may be able to create your very own Theo Paphitis Effect, as you grow your following.

Theo Paphitis uses Twitter to promote Boux Avenue

It’s a sign of the times that one of the most recognisable businessmen in the UK has chosen to use Twitter to promote his new business for the first time.

Today Theo Paphitis chose to use Twitter to release the name of his new lingerie company Boux Avenue, along with a competition for his followers who can win one of 2500 £10 gift vouchers when they register on the companies website.

The response was extremely positive with enough traffic flooding the website to bring it down to it’s knees. Could this positive reception open the doors for other businessman to use social networking to advertise their businesses.

It made perfect sense for Theo to use Twitter, he’s a very well respected business man with an impressive track record and thanks to his role on Dragon’s Den he has a high media profile which has resulted in him having over 52000 followers, many of which would have Re-Tweeted Theo’s news to their follows.

People are interested in what Theo tweets, when he talks people listen and it doesn’t cost him anything to share his latest news, share his tips for aspiring entrepreneurs, publicise his business deals or pass on the many positive reviews of his services that are left for him.

It makes perfect sense to use Twitter to reach your dedicated audience, and it’s a strategy that looks to have served Theo Paphitis well.

How to turn your Twitter Feed into a newspaper

The recent iPad application Flipboard has made waves and has become very popular by generating a magazine from several sources including your Facebook and Twitter Feeds.

Flipboard on the iPad

At the moment Flipboard is only available for the iPad but there are a couple of web based utilities that do something similar with your Twitter Feed, turning them into online news papers, these are paper.li & twittertim.es

Paper.li presents your Twitter Stream as an easy to read newspaper format, the text is large and easy to read, and there is the ability to look through an archive of previous editions.  A new edition of the paper is released everyday and a message is posted on your twitter time line telling your followers when a new edition is available

Paper.li presents your Twitter Stream as a newspaper

Twittertim.es presents the information in a slightly different way, whilst the presentation is still newspaper like, Twittertim.es presents a lot more information on screen at any one time. The net result of this is that information is slightly more squashed together and harder to read then the articles on  paper.li, but theres more for you to get your teeth into.

Both sites are going to appeal to different people but both site are easy to use, and will provide a newspaper that is tailored to your interests you simply log in with your Twitter account credentials and their servers do the rest.

Check them out and see which you prefer.

How to increase the number of followers you have on Twitter

There are many reasons why you may want to increase your number of followers on Twitter.

Perhaps you want to share information about a specific topic with as many like minded people as possible, maybe you have strong political views and are looking for a larger audience or perhaps you are a blogger looking to promote your site.

Whatever your reason there are several tools available which will do the job quickly and easily, but are relatively expensive, and whilst they are easy to use you don’t need them as Twitter itself has all the tools you need freely available.

How to increase your number of followers on Twitter:

1) After you have logged into Twitter you will see a search box on the top of the Window screen, enter your topic of interest (or niche) into the search box and click on the looking glass to start the search.

2) Twitter will now bring back a  list of recent Tweets about the subject. Find a tweet which definitely matches your niche and click on the image next to the start of the message. This will display that users home page on the right hand pane of the web browser window.

3) Click on the Follow button on the users home page.  You now follow this user.

4) On the right hand side of the screen Twitter displays the number of people that the user follows and the number of people that follow this tweeter.  Click on the word followers, this will display all the users that follow the tweeter, 20 users at a time, and some of which will share the same interest.

5) You can now go down the list of followers and click on the Follow button next to each Tweet ( it’s the left hand one from the 2 action buttons – shown below), you will now follow these users.

6) Every Time you follow a user then will get an email sent to them, notifying them that they have a new follower, and are given a link to follow you back. Not every user you follow will follow you back, but some will, especially if your tweets are high quality and of interest to them.

Using this method you can soon build up a number of like minded  followers, without having to pay for a utility.
